The Italian Government is about to approve a derogation from the Directive "Environment", created in 1992, which prohibits the hunting of protected species throughout the territory. This exemption would allow the killing of 5% of the estimated population of wolves in Italy. This is simply ridiculous. the wolves in Italy have just begun to repopulate the area and are not in any way a risk. Rather than spending time, money and human resources to a senseless killing, the Italian Government should focus its efforts to stop poaching , the best compensation programs to those who suffer losses because of wolves and create programs that help human populations to coexist with large predators. The poaching and road accidents each year cause about 300 deaths of wolves in Italy, a number which is already higher than the proportion proposed. Why legalize more deaths instead compare poachers and make roads, whether you are traveling safer for our wildlife? your vote will help to raise awareness of other people and will see to the Minister of Environment for the Environment, Land and Sea that this cause is not supported only in Italy but throughout the world. Dear Minister Galletti, with this petition demonstrate that public opinion does not support the whaling program authorized midifica proposed as the Habitats Directive. Instead of spending money and resources in this direction, it would be more appropriate to invest in environmental education programs aimed at helping the peaceful co-existence between large carnivores and human population; operaizoni anti-poaching; the safety through safe corridors for roads fauna and the organization of constant monitoring to verify with certainty the total wolf population in the area.
