Secure your recreational access to the South Chilcotin Park and support Tyax Adventures

Tourism and Recreation must be recognized equally alongside wildlife conservation in the South Chilcotin Mountains and Big Creek Park management plan. Without this immediate recognition our business and your access to the area will be threatened.

Tyax Adventures and its predecessor Spruce Lake Wilderness Adventures, has been sharing the magic of the South Chilcotin with mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders for 40 years alongside a healthy Grizzly Population. Unfortunately, the current Draft Management Plan uses Grizzly Bear “recovery” strategies that are based on broad sweeping data, and will severely hamper our business viability and your access to enjoy the park. It must be known that we too support maintaining a healthy Grizzly Bear population, however it is our view that this can be done in conjunction with maintaining flourishing and valuable tourism and recreation in the area.

To secure the future of tourism and recreation access in the South Chilcotin we must act now in response to the March 2016 South Chilcotin Mountains and Big Creek Park Management Plan Draft presented for public review.

We request that the following be included within the South Chilcotin Mountains and Big Creek Park Management Plan:

  • Tourism and recreation be recognized as equally important as wildlife conservation within the park. Future management within the park will focus on strategies that will enhance both; not place limits on one over the other unless absolutely necessary.

  • Our business, Tyax Adventures, be recognized as providing important recreational value within the Parks.

Thank you for signing the petition showing your support for keeping the South Chilcotin Mountains and Big Creek Park open to tourism and recreation. This petition will be delivered to the Honorable Mary Polak Minister of Environment  and local MLA’s before May 22, 2016.
