At present Carnoustie has only one public swimming pool which has been there since the 1970's. It is not opened to the public very often and is extremely dated.
The pool at present has 4 lanes and is on,ly 20 metres long.
With the emergence of the new community competitive swimming club, Carnoustie Claymores, the children who attend are having to train in a 20 metre swimming pool but have to compete in a 25 metre swimming pool which puts the swimmers at a disadvantage from the start. Having said this the swimmers have achieved huge success within the sport and are extremely dedicated and talented. Some of the club swimmers are rankend within the top 10 in Scotland.
Are aim is to campaign for better swimming facilities within the community of Carnoustie, providing the general public with the opportunity to swim more often and also give the swimming club adequate facilities to train effectively.
I also have to add that this Campaign was initiated by the younger swimmers of Carnoustie Claymores swimming club and it is them that are extremely motivated in attaining better swimming facilities within the town of Carnoustie.
