Tell Redding County To Get With the Recycling Movement

California has mandated that communities recycle organic wastes like lawn trimmings, food, and used paper. So why is Redding County dragging its heels? County leaders are whining that recycling organic waste will "smell" bad. Simultaneously, they are complaining that they don't have the facilities. Meanwhile, organic waste accounts for around a third of what is clogging already over-full landfills.

California has set aside grant money specifically to build facilities for recycling organic waste. And Redding had plenty of notice that this policy was coming down the road. The county needs to build a new facility to implement organic recycling which also has the potential to provide jobs. Please join me in asking the Redding County Commission to implement organic waste recycling in compliance with California law.

Dear Redding County Commission:

We the undersigned believe in the value of recycling organic waste. And we believe that such recycling deserves some community investment. So we believe you should stop dragging your feet and apply for state money to build an organic waste recycling facility. You might even find that you have a new source of employment for local citizens. Please obey state law and implement a program of organic waste recycling in your community.
