N Main St has a 30mph speed limit. But many northbound and southbound vehicles routinely reach speeds 10-15mph faster. Speeders in this densely populated area cause crashes and menace pedestrians, dog-walkers, bikers and hikers. Those crossing the street to and from the Browns Creek Trail and Zephyr Theater take their life in their hands and need to run, not walk, across the street. There is little traffic enforcement and no warning signage. We want the City and State to take action to slow drivers and protect our neighborhood and our tourists from speeders and make Stillwater more walkable and livable.

MNDOT update
Received today 1/12/18
Wendy,
I was just notified by MNDOT, that they will be installing an advanced reduce speed warning sign for southbound TH 95. The sign will located about 500 feet north of the existing speed limit sign by Elm Street . The sign would be installed in the spring. Maybe earlier depending on weather.

A group of us presented our findings to the Traffic Review Committee last night. The result is that Shawn Sanders, City Engineer, will start discussions with MNDOT to install a Reduced Speed Ahead sign north of the current 30mph sign at Terra Springs. And he was asked to install a permanent speed radar sign with a temporary one going in soon. The crosswalk lights and speed limit changes were not addressed. At least we are moving in the right direction. - Wendy
