End the use of non-plastic shopping bags.

Plastic bags are the only way!
Did you know, paper alternatives actually produce 3.3 times more greenhouse emissions, than plastic bags. Also, the production and disposal of paper bags, is more dangerous to terrestrial life. That's right, unless you're a sea creature, paper bags are more harmful to you. Some of you my be wondering, "what about reusable tote bags?" Well, as it turns out, a 2008 study conducted by the UK Environment Agency stated, "consumers seeking to minimize pollution and carbon emissions should use plastic grocery bags and then reuse those bags, at least once"... it then, went on to state, "Cotton tote bags, by contrast, exhibited the highest and most severe global-warming potential by far, since they require more resources to produce and distribute." That's right, tote bags are actually worse for the environment than disposable plastic bags, not to mention, they harbor E. coli or, in other words, feces! So in conclusion, plastic bags should not only remain in our society, they should be the only shopping bag available. Ban all other shopping bags!

Update December 8th

Good work, to those who have signed. You are all intelligent people with a mind capable of comprehending that plastic is the most environmentally economic solution to carrying your goods. In order to give you some input on the subject I've decided to enter more information. This is a quote from www.Bankrate.com concerning the viablility of plastic:

"The answer is very simple and very straightforward," says garbologist Bill Rathje, a fellow at the Archaeology Center of Stanford University and director of The Garbage Project, and a leading authority on what is in America's garbage.

"It's not one that the paper-bag people like to hear. In a dry landfill, paper bags don't degrade any faster than plastic bags. In a normal, well-run landfill, paper bags do not biodegrade any faster over at least 40 years than plastic."

The problem with paper is that it's fatter, he explains.

"Paper bags are much bulkier than plastic, so they fill up more landfill space," Rathje says. "They're three to five times bulkier than plastic, and you can see that yourself at the grocery. Landfills are closing down because they're full. From that perspective, plastic is much better than paper."'

Here is a quote from www.treehugger.com:

"plastic bags create fewer airborne emissions and require less energy during the life cycle of both types of bags per 10,000 equivalent uses -- plastic creates 9.1 cubic pounds of solid waste vs. 45.8 cubic pounds for paper; plastic creates 17.9 pounds of atmospheric emissions vs. 64.2 pounds for paper; plastic creates 1.8 pounds of waterborne waste vs. 31.2 pounds for paper."

Here is an interesting article relevant to our cause.

In short, good work, but more must be done. Please, I implore you,  spread this message to your friends and family. We need more signatures. This is a just cause, Mother Gaia deserves better than this, and, so do our children. Humans beings are the only animal capable of destroying the world, we are also the only animal that can save it. Please, fight for Earth... We owe it that much.

Dear Governor Herbert,

Please, ban all, but, plastic shopping bags. It is a common misconception that plastic shopping bags are as dangerous for the environment, as is believed by most people. While they do have some negative connotations, they are the most viable form of bag. If you care about the environment, then do away with the more dangerous alternatives that are paper and cotton.
