For Facebook to Create Adequate and Easy Reporting Of Fraud Its Site.
As a social network, Facebook provides easy access to millions of people, but does not allow for verification of identity of users. It is very easy for unscrupulous individuals to set up fake accounts and claim ownership, for example, artwork that they have not created and do not possess, of great concern is when such individuals then offer these items for sale on Facebook
Recently, the equestrian sculptor Cary J.van Dansik found his bronzes being offered for sale on several pages by such a person,who had created multiple fake identities for the purpose. It proved to be a long and frustrating process to get these pages shut down. His experience should be of concern to all artisan’s using Facebook. It is very easy to steal images from their pages and use these to set up fraudulent sales pages on the site.
Facebook needs an option that allows reporting of fraudulent sales and the closure of these pages as a priority. This is not currently covered adequately by the copyright and trademark tools.
