Time has come for the government to recognise that cannabis should be legal! History has proven that prohibition is ineffective in reducing drug use and therefore the government is being ignorant to the risk it is putting thousands of people in by creating such a significantly large black market. This prohibition disproportionately targets ethnic minorities and young people, whose lives are ruined by criminal records.
Furthermore, cannabis has been proven to have numerous medicinal uses that could be life saving such as reducing seizures, as seen with the recent case of Billy Caldwell, and being an effective painkiller.
Finally, alcohol causes 3.3 million deaths per year, tobacco kills over 7 million people per year. The consumption of both has no medicinal benefits and hold much greater risk yet remain legal. This typifies the government's hypocritical and corrupt nature as the British are the world's largest exporter of cannabis for medicinal use, legally producing 95 tonnes of marijuana in 2016, accounting for 44.9 per cent of the world total ... BUT it is entirely illegal in Britain, even for life saving medicinal purposes!! This needs to change!!
