Due to the Pandemic the safest way for our children to learn is through Volusia live. It has been a stressful journey both on the kids and the parents. Between learning how to turn in assignments and last-minute schedule changes (without notifying the student or parent) the process has not been easy. We have special needs kids who need extra help through school not being accommodated even though their IEP calls for it. Most parents are doing everything they can to help their child succeed but have failed due to inaptness on the schools' part. After countless attempts to get things figured out over the last two months, we have been met with nothing but excuses and accusations of it's the student's fault. For the first time we get to see firsthand that our kids aren't lying when they told us in the past years that their teachers don't want to help them in school. The past two weeks have been the worst. We were notified that if the kids didn't have a C or above then they would be forced into Brick and Mortar. With such short notice most parents jumped into action trying to get things figured out having to basically fight for help. We have helped the kids figure out the system (with very little help from the teachers) and worked hard to get the assignments turned in so that the grades can be up to PAR in order to stay in Live. Principal's have been reached cries have gone unheard. The kids health and the health of their families are not being accounted for. We cannot stand for this injustice for our kids. We have to be their voice and demand that changes be made. We must have more time so that the kids can continue online learning. It should be the choice of the parent what option is best for the child and not the voice of the school. The schools aren't aware of what health conditions someone may have in the home when making this decision.
