Tell Gov. Corbett – End live pigeon shoots (aka Pennsylvania’s Shame)

    • This petition is for Pennsylvania residence ONLY.

    • Did you know Pennsylvania is the ONLY state that does not consider pigeon shooting animal cruelty?

    • Each year countless pigeons are illegally netted and transported from city streets to the gun clubs of Pennsylvania where gun enthusiasts can pay to shoot them at close range.

    • In these notoriously cruel events, pigeons are kept in boxes and then launched one-by-one into the air by a spring loaded bottom when the box is opened.

    • These birds are denied food and water for several days to weaken them prior to release so they can be easily shot.

    • The majority – about 70% — are not killed immediately.

    • Injured pigeons who fall outside of the gun club’s property are left to suffer for hours or days before death claims them.

    • For the injured birds lucky enough to be collected from the ground get to die early by having their necks wrung or heads cut off by CHILDREN, a practice that serves to teach children that it is acceptable to kill animals for fun.

    • The recovered birds are then tossed into a pile of dead and dying pigeons and discarded as garbage.

    • The Pennsylvania State Legislature is now considering SB510 that will end the use of live animals (pigeons and fowl) for target trap shoots and block shoots.

    • SB510 also states traditional hunting activity is NOT included in the ban.

    • Pigeon shoots are not genuine “sportsmen” events and most hunters recognize there is a BIG difference between stalking a wild animal in the woods and close range shooting of weakened and disoriented birds released from a box.

    • Many people in all other states as well as around the world want this cruelty to end but ONLY the Pennsylvania residence can make this happen by passing SB510.

    • PLEASE sign this petition in support of SB510 to end Pennsylvania’s Shame.

    • The pigeon in the picture is a survivor. Her name is Janet.
