Mandatory Bias Training for all Florida Officers

Historically, black people were, and still are, discriminated against because of their skin color and the racist foundation of our nation. This has translated into the way people in power, police officers especially, treat black people and abuse their power by using excessive force when it was unwarranted. Since the tragedy of George Floyd's death, people have been exposing the corruption within the justice system, and how it has always negatively impacted minorites. Stephan Schwartz found that black men are two and a half times more likely to be killed by an officer when compared to their white counterparts. This is just one of the reasons why racial bias training has become a huge topic in the media and one that has the potential to weed out the officers who are continuously committing acts of racism. By mandating that all officers in the state of Florida pass a racial bias training course, we can hold officers accountable and try to change the tragic statistics and the people who lost their lives because of it.
