A record number of black women - 43 by the latest count - are running as Democrats for U.S. House seats in 2018. Unfortunately, winning is a long shot for most of them given that just one has received any financial support from the Democratic Party.
Sign this petition to urge the DNC and the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) to find a way to support these candidates.
While it's understandable that the national party wants to remain neutral during contested primary races, by staying out of these contests entirely, it pretty much ensures that the incumbents and/or more well-connected white men have the fundraising advantage to put them ahead in the primaries and that the status quo is maintained.
Black women have been credited with being the party's most loyal and reliable voting base, yet they are virtually absent from leadership positions. In order for diversity to be more than a talking point for the Democratic Party, we need to see women of color elected into office.
