ALL BUILDINGS MUST DISPLAY THEIR STREET NUMBER!

How many times has it happened to you? You're looking for a particular street number, but >many< of the buildings on the street do >not< show their street number! This is such an easy thing to fix, so cheap, logical, and useful...

Why, it ought to be a law. Gosh darn, it SHOULD be a law - ideally, a Federal law, but >any< law, Federal, state, or local, that promotes better labeling of buildings (both business and residential) would help!

Here's one possible version of the law. If people can come up with better variations, we're all ears!

*All buildings, both commercial and residential, that have an entrance on a public street, MUST by law display the street number of the building in a prominent manner.
*The street number must be displayed in numbers that are at least four inches high, in a clearly readable font, and in a highly contrasting color to the background the number is on.
*The street number must be placed in one of four possible locations:
1-On the door itself.
2-Directly above the door
3-Directly to the left of the door, at a point at least half way up the height of the door.
4-Directly to the right of the door, at a point at least half way up the height of the door.
*Failure to correctly label the entrance of a building results in a >repeating< fine every 30 days, with the revenue created going to local efforts toward street labeling.
*Fines start at $50.00, and may be increased by action of Federal, state, or local government.
