A great tragedy has happened at the Calgary Zoo: seven penguins died suddenly at the Calgary Zoo. Drowning is a nearly unheard of death for penguins. They usually die in the wild as a food source for orcas and leopard seals.
Major populations of penguins are found in Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, and South Africa. Because these regions are largely out of reach for the majority of the citizens of Calgary, the Calgary Zoo is the only way the will get the chance to see a penguin in person.

The Zoo's Education Department’s role is to celebrate the magical moments that happen at the zoo, to open up people’s hearts and minds, and then help them take the next step – whether that’s making changes in their own lives, recycling their cell phone or supporting the work of conservation organizations like the Calgary Zoo.
Because of this, the Calgary Zoo should not shut down their penguin exhibit.
