Located in the town of Sellersburg, Indiana, just 10 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky is a huge cement plant, owned by Essroc Corporation. The cement plant has just applied to the state of Indiana for a permit to burn hazardous waste in their cement kilns, as an alternative fuel source.
Don't let Essroc pollute our community! If this plan is approved we would be forced to breathe heavy metals and fugitive gas emissions. There are four schools adjacent to the plant and 2 more within 1/2 a mile. There are parks, houses, churchs, daycares, businesses and health care facilities all within 1 mile of this plant.
Not only will they be creating more toxic air pollution for our community there is an additional risk for drivers with their tanker trucks making their way through our town, over railroad tracks and into their plant. All you have to do is look at what happened to the town of
East Liverpool, Ohio, where a similar facility has devestated the community. I don't want that to happen to us. The plant already emits enough toxins into our air and water and now they want to get paid to use this alternative fuel, hazardous waste in their kilns.
Please help us protect our air, protect our schools, and protect our community! Sign the petition to urge the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to stop this horrible plan to pollute!
