Require Veterinary Technicians in Florida to be Certified or Licensed

Human Nurses MUST attend school to become certified, registered or licensed before they can be employed by any hospital or clinic in any state.

Florida does not require veterinary technicians to be certified or licensed before they are employed at an animal hospital or clinic. What this means is anyone can be hired regardless if they have medical experience or not and start working on your pets with minimal training including,

  • Taking Radiographs
  • Administering Medications
  • Administering and Monitoring Anesthesia during surgery
  • Giving Vaccines
  • Wound Care
  • Drawing Blood
  • Placing Catheters (Just like an IV in a person)
  • Performing Dental Cleanings

These are only a few things that veterinary technicians face on a daily basis. On the job training is not enough and our pets deserve the best care they can get. Our goal is to have every veterinary technician in Florida certified or licensed before they can be employed by any animal hospital or clinic.
