When it comes to the handling and care of animals, including wild and exotic animals, there needs to be specific guidelines and regulations set forth. The USDA has not set any set regulations when it comes to the handling, care and interaction with tigers, especially young cubs. These young animals often fall into the wrong hands, causing distress for them due to being handled and mistreated. Guidelines have been set forth to protect these animals but these are not laws and regulations. Animals as such need protection which is absent unless the lax guidelines set forth are codified into specific regulations.
It is no doubt adorable to hold, handle and take a photo with a sweet, young cub but in reality, such interactions can lead to stress and illness for the animal. When no longer needed for these cute excursions, most of these cubs meet with disturbing ends and/or death. Monetary gain is the only incentive for using these exotic animals for human interaction instead of being concerned about their health and well-being.
Our efforts in this petition is to encourage the USDA to codify their guidelines into strict regulations that will protect the exotic animals with only their health and well-being in mind.
