Protect Alaskans with Cardiac Emergency Response Plans

Did you know that each year in the U.S., around 23,000 children under the age of 18 experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital? About 40% of these incidents occur during sports — but the risk extends far beyond athletic settings.

That's why we're calling on Alaska lawmakers to require Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERPs) in all schools statewide.

A CERP is a clear, written plan that outlines how to respond to cardiac emergencies in any setting — whether it's a classroom, gym, or sports field. It ensures that students, faculty, coaches, and visitors are protected in the event of a cardiac arrest.

A strong CERP includes:

  • A designated cardiac emergency response team,
  • Clear protocols for rapid response,
  • Strategically placed and maintained AEDs,
  • Communication of the plan across the school community,
  • Routine emergency drills,
  • Coordination with local EMS, especially during athletic events.

Help us make Alaska schools safer. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to require CERPs in every school.
