When surveyed, 70% of voters prefer to KEEP their private coverage over a public option.
However, some politicians support proposals that would threaten the current coverage millions of American families rely on. No matter what they call it, the results are the same: Medicare for All, Medicare buy-in, or the public option, would all lead to higher taxes, longer wait times, and lower quality of care.
There is a better path forward. The Affordable Care Act, signed into law almost a decade ago, increased access to quality health care for millions of Americans - bringing the rate of insured Americans to record highs. Now more than ever, we must build on the progress we've made to protect access to affordable coverage for every American.
Bottom line, we need proven solutions that build on and improve our health care system, not new one-size-fits-all government health insurance systems.
No matter how politicians try to spin it, the public option is a slippery slope to an unaffordable government health insurance system. Instead of threatening the coverage millions of American families rely on, let's build on the foundation set by the ACA and expand on its already proven solutions.
