In February the Department of Energy begins their hearings on "Complex Transformation," a Bush administration proposal to revamp the nuclear weapons stockpile, which is a part of Bush’s push to build a new generation of nuclear weapons. They are giving us until April 10th to get as much public comment to the DOE as possible, letting them know that Americans don’t want new nuclear weapons.
Their plan is unnecessary, dangerous and undermines our credibility with other countries. By refitting new, more advanced nuclear warheads onto our bombs, the U.S. would essentially be telling the world to "Do as I say, not as I do." How can we seriously ask other nations not to build nuclear weapons when we are essentially pursuing new ones of our own?
Sign the petition telling the DOE to reject Complex Transformation today! We need to stop this new generation of nukes so that the U.S. can assert clear leadership for a global effort to rid the world of nuclear weapons.

The DOE should reject the Complex Transformation proposal to revamp the nuclear weapons arsenal. Complex Transformation is expected to cost upward of $150 billion, is unnecessary and is a waste of taxpayer money. Revamping the current arsenal could also lead to renewed nuclear tests.
Complex Transformation would be environmentally hazardous. Under the proposal, the DOE proposes increasing the number of plutonium pits we can produce in a year. Instead of creating more radioactive contamination, the DOE should clean up its mess from past production of nuclear weapons.
The new arsenal would also be bad foreign policy. We need American leadership in convincing countries like Iran and North Korea to forgo nuclear weapons. By building up its nuclear arsenal right now, the US is essentially telling the world to "Do as I say, not as I do."
