Orelha the dog lived a generally happy life in Florianópolis, Brazil. A beloved community member, neighbors looked over him, fed him, and made sure he was treated well. But all that was cut short in
early 2026 when four teenagers allegedly
tortured the poor animal. They left him so horrifically injured, he needed to be euthanized.People all over Brazil have been heartbroken and outraged by such cruelty. Thousands of people have held protests in multiple cities around the country
, and the hashtag #JustiçaPorOrelha (or, 'Justice for Orelha') gaining momentum online.They're demanding stronger animal protection laws and better enforcement of those laws.
