We live in a rich country but one where 14,075 children lost their home last year. That's the equivalent to 38 children losing their home every day.

Behind the stark homelessness statistics are real people, often families who are desperately struggling to find and keep a decent home – this housing emergency has a very human cost. One teacher summed up the impact of homelessness on children:
"Homelessness has a massive negative impact on children, on their mental health and their attainment in school and just their life chances."
Ellie (aged 15 years) who was living with her family in temporary accommodation which had no access to a kitchen, or private bathroom and not enough beds said:
'It's hard to concentrate at school because there's the worry about coming home. It's just stressful. There's nowhere we can relax or get any privacy. Before it was much better. We had our own home right near school and right near our friends. We all had our own rooms and a cooker and a fridge. We could eat proper meals. I just want it to be like it was before.'
50 years on from when we were founded more people than ever before had to come to us for help last year. The majority needed support to keep their home - they were struggling to afford their housing costs or were facing eviction.
