Tell Congress: Abandon Trump's Outrageous Budget and Protect American Families.

The Trump Administration recently released its preliminary federal budget proposal, nicknamed the "skinny budget."

This outrageous proposal doesn't cut dollars. It cuts jobs. It cuts education. It cuts homeownership. It cuts the only hope of a better life for countless American families.

What this administration is proposing is a massive transfer of resources from vital services and social protections into unrequested and unnecessary military spending. The proponents of this budget are making a conscious and callous decision to abandon children and other vulnerable Americans to sickness, homelessness, illiteracy, and unemployment, all while fattening the coffers of defense contractors.

Some people look at a budget proposal and see numbers. At the National Urban League (NUL), we look at a budget proposal and see people.

These numbers represent thousands of Americans who will be abandoned. Older Americans seeking sustainable jobs and stable retirement; at-risk young people entangled in the justice system; tens of thousands of families battling foreclosure and increased taxes... we must stand up for them.

We must raise our voices now if we are going to protect the progress we've made in obtaining human rights. We can't stand by while American ideals are abandoned.
