- Limited testing in rural areas means the virus is spreading fast
- Lack of hospital beds and delayed vaccine rollouts are proving deadly
In the remote, rural communities of India, COVID-19 is spreading like wildfire. While India's first wave was predominantly contained to urban centres, this aggressive second wave is attacking communities in rural areas, where two-thirds of the population live. Limited awareness of COVID-safe practices along with a lack of testing and healthcare facilities make rural villages particularly vulnerable to the virus. We desperately need your help to reach these under-served women, men and children.
Families living in poverty in these areas — mothers, fathers and children — often have less than a dollar or two a day to pay for food, rent and medical care. They don't have access to basic protections like soap, masks or medicine — and they may never, unless we reach them.
And we need to help families survive.WHAT WE WANT TO DO
- Roll out campaigns to prevent COVID-19 infection and tackle misinformation
- Collaborate with local governments to facilitate vaccination camps
- Distribute food ration kits and medicine
- Provide remote care through telemedicine
- Set up basic care beds equipped with oxygen
- Establish a temporary ambulance service
- Provide crucial small loans to help families restart their businesses and restore livelihoods.
