Release 60 People Arrested in Kenya for "Suspected Homosexuality"

This week, at least 60 people were arrested at Club Envy in Nairobi, Kenya. Though the police claimed those arrested were "drunk and disorderly," a nightclub watchman told activists the real story -- that they had been arrested for their suspected sexual orientation.

Though Club Envy has a reputation for being LGBT-friendly, especially among women, much of the rest of Kenya has developed an environment of fear and oppression for LGBT citizens. Sexual activity between men is punishable by up to 14 years in prison, and Kenyan government spokesperson Aden Duale said earlier this year that "homosexuality is as serious as terrorism," calling it "a social evil."

Though some of the arrested people have been released on bail, dozens of others are still languishing in jail for their sexual preference. We have to stand against this violation of human rights and show Kenyan officials that being LGBT isn't a crime.
