Dog-fighting - over 140 dogs seized: need vigorous prosecution
Dogfighting, money laundering and drugs are all tangled together on the Gulf Coast, state police say, with two intertwined sets of arrests and the confiscation of more than 140 pit bulls as evidence. In addition to all the other charges these people face, we petition that you give them the max. jail time, mandatory psychological testing and counseling and that they never have a dog in their possession again.
Dogfighting, money laundering and drugs are all tangled together on the
Gulf Coast, state police say, with two intertwined sets of arrests and
the confiscation of more than 140 pit bulls as evidence.
The suspects: Andrew Aubrey, Michael J. Jackson, Lance K. Olivier, Pedro Mendez Ramos, Keith Warren and Darren P. Williams face charges of other crimes but we want to discuss the Pit Bull Fighting and be sure that these people are charged and face the penalties for their abuse to animals.
As you may know, social scientists and law enforcement officials have
identified animal abuse as a symptom of emotional illness and a precursor to
violent crimes against human beings.
As a society, we must call a halt to the acceptance of cruelty to animals
and enforce a policy of harsh punishment for these crimes. To allow
individuals guilty of perpetrating such cruel acts to go unpunished or not
sufficiently punished would be to sanction these horrific crimes and would
permit them to go on to commit serious and violent crimes against humans.
Illegal animal fighting is a blood-sport in which animals are
specifically bred and trained to fight each other within an enclosed
pit or ring, for the benefit of individuals who place bets on the
animal they believe will win. The fights are extremely brutal, with
animals often fighting to the death.
In addition to the extremely violent nature of the animal cruelty
involved, illegal animal fighting events almost always include other
criminal activity, such as gambling, drugs, prostitution and illegal
firearms. (Large amounts of money exchange hands during these gambling
events, and where there is money, there are guns and other weapons
present.)
We request that the harshest penalty be imposed against these suspects (if found guilty), including the
maximum jail sentence. In addition, we strongly suggest that they
receive mandatory psychological counseling and be prohibited from ever
owning or harboring animals.
Please send a strong message to the community that cruelty to animals will
not be tolerated by a civilized society by seeking the maximum penalty.
Thank you for your valuable time and consideration.
Sincerely,
