Terminally ill Virginians have no time to wait. Show Your Support for Expanding End-of-Life Care Options

Nearly one in three U.S. adult residents currently have a healthcare option that's denied to the people of Virginia: The chance to chart their own end-of-life journey, including the compassionate option of medical aid in dying.

Alison Green's mom Barbara had "always lived her life on her own terms," and it came as no surprise to Alison that Barbara "spent the limited time she had left continuing to fight to be able to do that." Unfortunately Barbara was forced to leave her home and many of her loved ones and move to Washington D.C., where medical aid in dying is authorized, in order to avoid a notoriously prolonged and painful death from pancreatic cancer because this compassionate end-of-life option wasn't available to her and other terminally ill people like her in Virginia.

Medical aid in dying allows terminally ill adults with six months or less to live the option to request and take medication prescribed by their doctor to end unbearable suffering. It is entirely optional for both the terminally ill person and the doctor, and puts the patient in charge of what happens with their dying process.

Access to a peaceful death should not be determined by where you live! Take action today, and honor Barbara's legacy, by joining the fight alongside terminally ill Virginia residents and their loved ones for the opportunity to end their story on their terms.

Dear Compassion & Choices,

I am writing today to join the 72% of Virginians (2026 Untold Research) who believe that terminally ill, mentally capable adults should have the right to request and receive medication that they can take, if they choose, to relieve their suffering and achieve a peaceful death.

It's entirely optional, and gives eligible individuals autonomy -- putting them in charge of requesting and taking the medication, with the ability to change their mind at any time.

Access to a peaceful death should not be determined by where you live. I pledge to support the people of Virginia and fight to get them the option to end their story on their terms, and to stay informed about our efforts to bring this compassionate end-of-life option to the state.
