Introduced flora and fauna in Australia should be erradicated in a sincere effort to protect the unique flora and fauna which is ONLY FOUND IN AUSTRALIA. The introduced species are found elsewhere around the world so getting rid of them from Australia will not send the species extinct. However allowing them to thrive in an ecosystem which cannot support them (that is they have no natural predators of checks to keep the populations in balance) will send many native speices to extinction.
Druming up support for protecting these animals that do not belong in Australia by using Care2 is wrong and is murdering native species and plants and animals.
I am referring to protecting animals in the wilderness and in the cities. To give you an example of the general attitude of so called "animal lovers", I was talking with one recently and they were laughing and joking about how their cat (domestic) killed a possum. Cats are voracious predators but "animal lovers" only choose to see one aspect of the animals' true nature. So, if that possum was a mother, what would now happen to it's offspring?? Regardless of a point like that, the possum had a natural right to be here and exist and the right was stripped away by a cat and indirectly by it's irresponsible owner.
Instead of seeing pettions for saving these feral animals I would like to see more support for saving our native species and humanely ridding Australia of feral species. Also for there to be much tighter regulation and control around keeping introduced species as domestic pets. Even in urban areas pets such as cats and dogs kill many native species of insects, amphibians and small mammals or marsupials. All this slaughter adds up to the degradation of Australia's biodiversity and the eventual collapse of the environment. I would also like to see more support for allowing Australians to keep more native species as domestic pets.
Care2 Team, please stop allowing petitions which are effectively supporting the extinction of Australian species found no where else in the world to be sent out enmas to people who may be signing it in the belief that they are saving some animals when in fact they are signing a death sentence warrant for the animals which have no defence against the foreign invaders.
