One of our worthy institutions is under attack. Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip" column is being canceled. Apparently, Videography's management felt it wasn't cutting edge .
This action seems shortsighted and indicative of an attitude in technology circles that "old" is bad, "new" is good. Dick's column is about technique, not technology really. It's all about the "how" of the production business, not the what. When Dick writes (or speaks) about technology, frequently it's how to work around it's limitations. I cannot remember a time when I didn't learn SOMETHING from one of his columns or his presentations.
Videography is an institution and for good reason. It's articles, columns and reviews have fueled an industry made up of thousands of professionals.
Likewise, Dick Reizner is an institution. His experience, knowledge and connections may be needed not more than ever. With the great emphasis on technology, we need someone out there grounding us in the day to dayness of the production business.
We, the undersigned, urge you to keep Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip" column. The tips and techniques shared in the column have helped countless film, video and media professionals everyday for decades.
