As the #MeToo movement surged last year, it quickly became clear that even the United States Congress was not immune from incidents of sexual abuse and harassment. Moreover, it was clear that the rules used to police sexual misconduct were woefully inadequate and out-of-date.
In the past year, Senator Al Franken, Rep. John Conyers, Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Patrick Meehan and Rep. Blake Farenthold all resigned from office facing disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct. The latter two even used taxpayer money to settle the cases against them!
The Senate and House pledged to pass new legislation for better procedures and accountability, yet they have failed all these months later to come to a consensus on a single bill.
Now Congress Too, a group of over 1,500 former Capitol Hill staffers concerned about this issue, is putting pressure on both legislative bodies to get the job done before the end of the year.
We sign this petition to amplify these staffers' voices — we demand that Congress hold itself to higher standards in an effort to root out sexual misconduct in D.C.
