Stop Chicken Farm Slavery in Oklahoma

Forced, unpaid labor is slavery — not rehabilitation.

Nonetheless, courts from a handful of states send people convicted of nonviolent drug offenses to hard labor camps that offer little in the way of substance abuse counseling. According to the Center for Investigative Reporting's Reveal Magazine:

"The programs promise freedom from addiction. Instead, they've turned thousands of men and women into indentured servants."

Worse, some of America's leading corporate brands — brands you know and may use — are enmeshed in this morally repugnant practice.

Simmons Foods, Inc. is one of the biggest poultry companies in the US. The company contracts with the owners Christian Alcoholics and Addicts in Recovery (CAAIR) to have residents pluck feathers and gut slaughtered chickens for Simmons. That chicken is then shipped to major chains for sale.

People with substance abuse issues need help — not exploitation. That's why we are calling on Walmart, KFC, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen to refuse to do business with Simmons until it ends its contract with Christian Alcoholics and Addicts in Recovery.
