Join The Fight to End The Leading Cause of Blindness

More than 20 million people around the world are needlessly blind due to untreated cataracts. Two-thirds of them are women and nearly all of them live in the developing world. Without sight these individuals have a life of hardship and dependence ahead of them.

This blindness impacts more than just one person. When it occurs, a relative often leaves work or school to become a caretaker. Families already burdened by poverty lose another source of income.

But there's hope.

A treatment exists in the form of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery an affordable procedure that takes only 5 minutes to perform. With restored sight comes an improved quality of life, better overall health and brighter economic possibilities. And by teaching this procedure to cataract specialists we can increase access to eye care where little or none currently exists.

In September 2015, the United Nations adopted its "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." The plan includes 17 goals to end poverty, reduce inequality and "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all." To fully realize this goal, we advocate for increased access to eye health care at an unprecedented scale. To achieve this the UN must include the training of eye care professionals in their development agenda.

HelpMeSee is committed to ending the global health crisis of cataract blindness. Won't you join us?

Sign this petition and tell the United Nations you support the training of cataract specialists in the developing world so we can end the number one cause of blindness, cataracts.
