Tell Ontario to grow the Greenbelt to protect our vulnerable waters, farmland and wildlife

Ontarians love the Greenbelt and its protection of our food, water and wildlife, but rapid urbanization and development pressures around the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) are threatening its integrity. We know the best way to protect the region's farmland, watersheds and vulnerable wildlife is to grow the Greenbelt.

Right now, there is an opportunity to protect the Paris Galt Moraine, which purifies clean drinking water for nearly 200,000 people in southern Ontario. This would be a good first step towards growing the Greenbelt.

Over 1.25 million people in the GGH region rely on groundwater for their drinking needs, and our lakes and wetlands are home to numerous at-risk species of fish and wildlife. The Greenbelt also contributes $9.1 Billion to Ontario's economy every year, and agriculture in the GGH provides 101,000 jobs. We all depend on the Greenbelt in some way, so let's make sure we protect it.

Show that you're one of the 9 in 10 Ontarians who supports growing the Greenbelt by telling the government to support Bill 71 and pass the Paris Galt Moraine Act.
SUBJECT: We ask you to grow the Greenbelt to protect waters, farmland and wildlife

Dear Representatives,

I was happy to hear that our government wants to protect the Greenbelt and the farmland, forests, wetlands and wildlife inside it. The Greenbelt is vital to the prosperity of Ontario and the well-being of its citizens. We know that the best way to safeguard all that the Greenbelt provides is to grow it, so please consider extending its protective boundaries in the Paris Galt Moraine, Carruthers Creek, and Simcoe County.

Rapid urbanization, rising populations, and development pressures within the Greater Golden Horseshoe are threatening the integrity of our waters, precious farmland, food sources and vulnerable wildlife. We need to protect these areas permanently and the best way to do that is to expand the Greenbelt that we all know and love!

Over 1.25 million people in Southern Ontario rely on groundwater for their drinking needs. The Greenbelt also contributes $9.1 Billion to Ontario's economy every year, and agriculture in the Greater Golden Horseshoe provides 101,000 jobs.

Areas like Simcoe County, the Paris Galt Moraine and Carruthers Creek are under threat due to development, and the destruction of these significant areas would threaten the integrity of the Greenbelt. Please consider the expansion of the Greenbelt so future generations can continue to depend on the clean water, food and natural areas that it provides.

Sincerely,
