To reporters, editors, producers, and news organizations: Stop giving Trump respect he doesnt deserve.
We know this has to be a tough time for you, with Trump acting like a thug, and shattering all basic rules of decorum that presidents and the those covering them have followed for decades. How do you possibly treat someone with presidential level respect and deference when they're treating you and everyone around you like crap?
Treat him like crap right back.
"President", my ass. He's a horrible human being who is destroying our country. And using the Constitution to wipe his supersized butt. So no, he doesn't get to demand the nation pretend he's FDR or Lincoln or even James Buchanan.
Mock him to his face. Start questions with, "As the nation's most prominent Ahole-American, how do you…" And when he lies — something he does constantly -- tell him, "Mr. President, everyone knows you're full of crap."
You want to be respectful, we get that. But we're in a weird period where harshness and crassness are actually what we need to get to the truth. When Trump is allowed to spurt lies and bile, instead of answering questions, he escapes unchallenged. But when serious questions are topped by a nice helping of Don Rickles, Trump will be knocked off balance, and maybe even stunned into telling the truth.
Stop pretending we're in normal times. Don't give him the advantage of being able to do and say whatever he feels like without getting the same in return.
He's an asshole. We all know it. Treat him accordingly.
