Protect Americans from Soot Pollution

The EPA has proposed a long-overdue rule to strengthen America's health protections for particulate pollution, commonly known as soot -- a dangerous air pollutant associated with thousands of deaths each year.

Take Action: Help protect Americans from one of the most deadly types of airborne contaminants.
SUBJECT: I strongly support your national soot standards DOCKET ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2007-0492

Dear [Decision Maker],

I strongly support the EPA's proposal to strengthen health protections for particulate pollution.

Particulate pollution, or soot, is one of the most deadly types of airborne contaminants. It is made up of microscopic matter that can penetrate people's lungs and get into their bloodstreams, and it causes heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, acute bronchitis and -- in some cases -- death.

Particulate pollution also has serious environmental impacts, including impairing visibility at treasured national parks like the Great Smoky Mountains.

EPA's proposal is long overdue in taking corrective action to protect human health from deficiencies identified several years ago by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

We must protect human health and the environment from dangerous soot pollution.

Our communities, our families and our children are counting on your leadership.
