It's Time to Guarantee Paid Family and Medical Leave

The United States is the only developed nation in the world where paid maternity leave isn't guaranteed.

That means almost 90 percent of employees are left without a paycheck when they fall ill, give birth, or care for a family member. In fact, almost a quarter of mothers are forced to go back to work just two weeks after having a baby, in large part because they can't afford not to.

No worker should be penalized for taking care of themselves, a child, or a loved one. It's time for America to catch up.

Women like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand have been pushing for paid family and medical leave — but Republicans who control Congress aren't interested.
