Protect the Future of Fish and Fishing in America

The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico reminded us of the close connection between the health of our ocean environment and our coastal communities.

The Coastal Jobs Creation Act (HR 4914) will support fishermen and coastal communities while fish populations and ocean ecosystems are restored.

This important act will employ fisherman and others in:
- Cooperative research programs to employ fishermen and their vessels to help in the collection of fisheries data and testing new gear and fishing techniques for better fisheries management.
- Cleanup programs to remove marine debris and derelict fishing gear from coastal waters.

The Coastal Jobs Creation Act is truly beneficial to coastal environments and the communities that call them home. Please urge your representative to cosponsor H.R. 4914, The Coastal Jobs Creation Act.
Dear House Member,

Please cosponsor the Coastal Jobs Creation Act of 2010 (CJCA) (H.R. 4914). Congress has made a priority of saving and creating jobs in this hard-hit economy. The CJCA would create jobs for fishermen and coastal communities as fish populations rebuild and ocean ecosystems recover from decades of overfishing.

The conservation of America's valuable ocean fish populations is a great investment in our environment and our coastal economies. The Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) - the federal law designed to conserve ocean fish - is working. As fish populations rebound, we restore our damaged marine ecosystems, creating jobs, supporting coastal economies, enhancing recreational fishing opportunities and bringing back fresh, local seafood.

But restricting fishing to allow fish populations to recover is causing short-term economic hardships. Please reject short-sighted proposals to delay or weaken conservation deadlines to address these hardships. A better solution is to cosponsor the CJCA (H.R. 4914) and help create jobs for fishermen and coastal communities as ocean fish populations rebuild.
