Protect Animals During Production of the "The Hobbit"

The production of the "Lord of the Rings" film, "The Hobbit," allegedly took 27 animals' lives. A report claims the film's animals were housed on a dangerous farm filled with bluffs, sinkholes, and other "deathtraps."

A total of 5 horses, 12 chickens, 1 pony, and several goats and sheep were allegedly maimed or killed. Director of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Peter Jackson, is denying the allegations. But activists are demanding proof that these animals were not in fact harmed and that animals won't be harmed during production of the stunt-driven fantasy film in the future.

A spokesperson for Peter Jackson claims that some of the 150 animals housed on the Hobbit set did die, but only from natural causes. Animal rights groups are not so sure.

Send a strong and clear message to Peter Jackson, asking him to verify that animal housing on the Hobbit films is 100% safe and cruelty-free.
Dear Peter Jackson,

While you have assured the public that the "hobbling" of one horse on the set of "The Hobbit" was thoroughly investigated--what about the alleged deaths of 27 animals? Please conduct an investigation regarding the possible mistreatment of farm animals that may have been subjected to harsh living conditions for the sake of the film.

Verify that the farms the film's animals are housed at are free of traps such as sinkholes and bluffs, where "accidents" can easily cover up what is actually negligence. Audiences deserve to know, without a doubt, that animals were not harmed in the making of this film, and will not be harmed in the future.

Please don't shirk these allegations with denial. Look into them so this alleged case of animal cruelty isn't a case of he-said-she-said, but of justice for the animals that make "The Lord of the Rings" possible.

Sincerely,
