City Government Threatens Disabled Veteran's Dog... Again

In November, Fort Worth city officials took Mimi the service dog from Steven Woods, a disabled veteran, and threatened to put her to sleep.

A neighbor accused Mimi of biting him, and a judge slapped a hefty fine on Woods, who is living on disability benefits alone. With the help of good Samaritans, Woods was happily reunited with his service dog.

But now the City of Fort Worth is turning what would have been a happy ending into a neverending nightmare. The city is claiming that he failed to quarantine his dog as ordered by Animal Control and that Mimi and the other dog he took to the animal shelter for quarantine last July were not his dogs. This bizarre accusation will cost over $7,000 in fines.

Tell the city of Fort Worth not to retaliate against a disabled veteran and retract the fines it has placed on Stephen Woods and Mimi the dog.
Dear Fort Worth City Officials,

When the City of Fort Worth took Mimi the service dog from Stephen Woods, a disabled veteran, good Samaritans responded to help Woods pay off fines and reunite with his beloved companion.

But now the City of Fort Worth is accusing Woods of failing to quarantine Mimi and his other dog, and bizarrely claiming that the dogs he took to the animal shelter for quarantine last July were not his dogs. This will cost him over $7,000 in fines on a fixed income for disabled veterans.

The case has brought a lot of bad publicity to the City of Fort Worth, but retaliation against Woods and continued fining will only worsen the situations of everyone involved. Stephen Woods has suffered enough.

I am writing to urge you to not retaliate against a disabled veteran and retract the fines you have placed on Stephen Woods and Mimi the dog.
