Tell Congress: Don't let political appointees overrule medical experts

If you or someone you love has an autoimmune disease, the next breakthrough treatment starts with medical research. That research is now at risk.

A new Trump Administration regulation lets political appointees, even those with no scientific background, overrule the scientists and medical experts who decide which medical research studies get funded. They could even cancel promising autoimmune research already underway.

Tell Congress to block this dangerous regulation in the spending bill they must pass by December 11th.

More than 50 million Americans live with an autoimmune disease like lupus, Crohn's disease, type 1 diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. They're counting on new research for life-changing treatments with fewer side effects.

This is a nonpartisan issue. No matter who's in power, scientists, not political appointees, should decide which medical research moves forward. Add your name today.
On behalf of the autoimmune community, I wanted to thank Congress for taking bipartisan action to temporarily block the proposed Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance rule through December 11.

However, I urge you to please build on this action by working to have the rule withdrawn so patients can count on continued progress toward better treatments and cures.

For over 50 million Americans living with autoimmune diseases, medical research is deeply personal. Progress means hope for treatments that better meet our needs and for a future in which disease has less control over our daily lives. Federally funded research, and the bipartisan support that sustains it, matters deeply to patients and families impacted by autoimmune disease.

Patients need a sustained commitment to research, not uncertainty about its future. And the needs of patients with autoimmune diseases must remain at the center of medical research, with scientific expertise guiding the search for better treatments and cures.

Please stand with autoimmune patients and caregivers by urging the Administration to withdraw the proposed rule. Patients and families deserve a stable, predictable, science-driven research environment that keeps progress toward better care moving forward.

Thank you for your leadership and for keeping the needs of patients with autoimmune diseases at the forefront of this work.
