Tell Congress to Pass the Fix Our Forests Act

America is facing a future defined by wildfires that are increasingly extreme, vast in scale, and devastating to communities and landscapes. Already this year, more than 7 million acres have burned across the country. This is an area larger than the size of Massachusetts.

As this crisis grows, it threatens communities, impacts national public health, and degrades air quality across entire regions. It is becoming increasingly common to see entire cities blanketed in wildfire smoke, forcing people inside for days on end. More than 115 million people in the U.S. (more than a third of the population) were exposed to toxic wildfire smoke this year.

The wildfire crisis demands federal action and the Senate has an opportunity to kick start the national solution by passing the bipartisan S. 1462 - Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA).

FOFA would establish a Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program to provide communities with resources to aid in fire preparedness and expand the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program to cover home-hardening against wildfires. It also modernizes how the federal government researches and models risk to communities to improve the response to wildfire ignition in the built environment.

Alliance for Wildfire Resilience Action is working hard to push FOFA through the Senate, meeting with lawmakers and their staff. Now, we are asking you to help get this bill over the finish line by contacting your Senators and asking them to support the Fix Our Forests Act.

Dear [send:full_name] ,

I want to make sure you know about America's wildfire crisis. Already this year, over 7 million acres (an area the size of Massachusetts) have burned.

As these fires grow, their impact spreads, threatening communities, impacting national public health, and degrading air quality across entire regions. We continue to see entire cities blanketed with wildfire smoke, disrupting communities, heightening the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions in older adults and children, and putting pregnancies at risk. More than 115 million people in the U.S. (more than a third of the population) were exposed to toxic wildfire smoke this year.

Wildfires aren't just a land management issue: they impact everything from public health to military readiness.

This is why I am asking you to support S. 1462 - Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA).

The Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) is one of the most significant pieces of wildfire legislation in decades. This bill would establish a first-of-its-kind federal Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program and expand Community Wildfire Defense Grants to provide the only federally funded source for home hardening. Additionally, it would speed up the planning and implementation of wildfire risk reduction projects on federal lands while also expanding collaborative tools to bring more partners into this vital work.

The impacts of America's wildfires are no longer limited to any one state, region, or industry. This is a national problem and passing FOFA is your chance to kick start a national solution.

Please support S. 1462 - Fix Our Forests Act.
