Tell Maryland to Enforce Hospital Visitation Rights for Same-Sex Couples!

Linda Cole of Takoma Park in Maryland wasn't allowed to visit her wife at Washington Adventist Hospital. She says her wife, Kathryn Wilderotter, who she is legally married to, was taken to the hospital on November 13th after having a seizure and crashing her car.

Cole followed the ambulance she was taken to the hospital in, but was not allowed to go past the front desk when she got there until Wilderotter's sister arrived. The hospital staff refused to acknowledge her as a family member and let her see her wife.

Maryland has hospital visitation rights. Also, Obama implemented a policy that requires hospitals that receive Medicare and Medicaid to enforce same-sex partner visitation rights.

Not allowing partners to visit in the hospital because of their sexual orientation is discrimination and it is wrong. Tell Maryland to enforce hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples!

Dear Maryland Government,

Recently, Washington Adventist Hospital staff prohibited Linda Cole from seeing her wife, Kathryn Wilderotter, in the hospital after Wilderotter had a seizure and crashed her car. The staff did not recognize her as a family member but allowed her sister to go back and visit her.

Maryland has visitation rights, and it's a federal policy that hospitals that receive Medicare and Medicaid enforce same-sex partner visitation rights.

Please enforce these visitation rights for same-sex couples. Not allowing partners to visit in the hospital because of their sexual orientation is discrimination and it's wrong.
