The Widman Bill: No Bond for Life

Police Officer Andrew Widman was shot and killed on July 18, 2008 by Abel Arango, a Cuban national career thug and criminal, living in Naples, Florida with multiple arrests including domestic violence, drugs, robbery and possession of a concealed weapon as well as multiple others.

At the time of the shooting, Arango was wanted on a no-bond warrant and his criminal history consisted of multiple felony charges.

Abel Arango shot and killed Offer Widman by shooting him in the face at point blank range with no hesitation and complete disregard for human life. Abel Arango was chased down a few minutes later, shot a killed while shooting at and attempting to kill additional police officers.

The Widman Bill: No Bond for Life is an attempt to stop career criminals such as Abel Arango from walking out of a jail or court house on bond of any amount. The bill hopes to secure law in the state of Florida that will require all suspects with previous multiple felony charges to remain in custody by automatically denying them bond for life.

If Florida law had required Abel Arango held without bond due to his criminal history of multiple previous felonies, this dangerous criminal would not have been able to take the life of Officer Widman and endanger the lives of the citizens of Fort Myers, Florida on July 18, 2008.

The Widman Bill Coalition for Citizens Rights and its supporters believe that criminals with multiple previous felonies have proven themselves to be highly untrustworthy, a flight risk, a severe danger and an immediate threat to all those around them, thus forfeiting any rights to a bond upon future arrests on charges of any degree in the state of Florida.

Please join us in fighting back against those that attempt to deny law abiding citizens of the great state of Florida a safe environment to work and play. Please sign The Widman Bill: No Bond for Life petition now.  Florida legislature is powerless to act without the backing of Florida citizens. By signing the petition, you add one more voice to the call for unity against career criminals.
