Evict Occupy DC from McPherson Square
The Occupy movement is illegally camped in McPherson Square, in Washington, DC. This national park was recently completely renovated at taxpayer expense, but has been taken over by dozens of protesters who have camped there since October without a permit and in clear violation of federal laws prohibiting camping. The National Park Service has won several federal court decisions indicating they have the right to evict the campers, but is afraid to infringe on "free speech."
The hobos in the park have destroyed the grass, killed the landscaping, damaged the sculptures and fencing, bred rats, created a horrible stench and have become a nexus for crime and homelessness.
It's time to take back our park. Tell the park service to enforce the law.
We, the taxpayers of the United States, petition you to enforce existing regulations regarding the prohibition against camping overnight in national parks, including McPherson Square in Washington, DC. We urge you to immediately and without regard to any other concern, evict all persons found to be camping, residing in tents, tarps or other structures, whether or not they are sleeping, in McPherson Square. We do not believe a "24-hour vigil" constitutes an acceptable exception to the law, and believe that any and all tents should be removed from the square, and the park restored to full use for all people.
