Project a Positive Image

We, as teenagers and young women, receive constant pressure from the media, i.e. billboards, TV Commercials, the Internet, Movies, Magazines, Billboards, clothing companies, and Runway Models. We are taught that being extremely thin, dieting, absolutely "beautiful",  popular, and sexually promiscuous is EVERYTHING. Well, it's not. It causes depression, suicide, anorexia, cutting, heart-break, sadness, rebellion, shyness, inferiority, sexual diseases, high school popularity contests, apathy, mood swings, fasting, skipping meals, excessive exercise, laxative abuse, and self-induced vomiting, cosmetic surgery, etc. The list goes on. This has to stop and stop now. We, as women, are feeling inferior and invisible because the media makes us feel that way. We are a creation of the Living God and we need to realize we are beautiful and don't have to be perfect. Our freckles, our size twelve body, our glasses, our poochy stomachs, our butts, our chests....It does not define us. Let US choose how to define ourselves-through personality. Not some model in a magazine.
We the undersigned,
pledge to never let the media control our body image again. We are beautiful human beings. We will not stand to watch girls fall for the lies that thin, fake models in magazines present to us. That's all they are. Lies. We will insist on a change. We will not accept the way things are. We will not back down. We are unhappy with the way the media portrays the female figure. We are not sexual objects, we are not things, we are not tooth picks. We are not a Barbie Doll that can be used and destroyed. We are NOT plastic. We are real, we grow, we gain weight, we lose weight, we lose our eyesight, we gain wrinkles. With all of that, we learn to love. Beauty is in the imperfection. We will learn to accept ourselves the way were are. We will not fall for this trap that says we aren't good enough. We ARE good enough. Don't try to tell us otherwise. We are made in the image of God. We are amazing, beautiful human beings who are loved. We deserve nothing less, we accept nothing less.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this.
