Saving Lake Winnipegs Walleye's

In Gimli, MB, Canada, located on the shores of Lake Winnipeg; the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world; human beings rely on the plentiful abondance of fish species for both the recreational and commercial fishing industry. Walleye are the most desirable fish species due to their taste and fillet size which has a high value in the fishing industry market.

However... the large spawning Walleyes in Lake Winnipeg are being targeted by fisheries since they have a higher price tag compared to smaller fish. We are concerned that over time the large female Walleyes are going to die out and the walleye population will die out from lack of breeding. We want to make quota regulations that will help save the population of the large females, once that is done we will look to bring in large spawning Walleyes from other lakes to help get a jump start on bringing the population of the Walleye back up. We also want to find out why Rainbow Smelt stopped breeding, and then reintroduce them back into lake Winnipeg because they had a positive effect on the predatory fish providing another major food source. This would wold be done by raising them in a stock pond, then introduce them back into Lake Winnipeg.
