Open borders for trade has allowed poison to be brought into our country from China. Many of us have lost our beloved animals to this carelessness and it cannot be allowed to happen again. With this petition, we ask our government to step up and put new laws in effect to protect our ports from importing poison it to our country.
In light of the recent disaster involving the imports from China, we, the undersigned citizens of the United State believe that the time has come for our government to take a stand and put restrictions on all imports into this country.
We further believe it is time for our congress to investigate China's culpability and hold them fully accountable for the ever growing number of serious illnesses and deaths among our companion animals. There is a growing sense that our human foods have also been involved and it is only a matter of time until the tainted food products begin to cause serious illness and possibly death to our most vulnerable citizens. Those responsible most own up to their actions.
The free trade agreement has opened our ports to countries with lower standards than our own. This is not safe for the American people or our companion animals. No country refusing to allow inspectors in, or refusng to comply with this country's regulations and safe guards, shall be permitted to export any products to the United States of America.
It is also time for the FDA to get out of the political arena and back to what they were intended to be, protectors of the people of this country. There is no reason the American citizens should ever have been in this position and we should never be put here again.
