Restrict Free Roaming Cats.
Save our songbirds from overwhelming feline predation so your great grandkids can see and hear a songbirds. Hundreds of millions of birds each year are killed by the over 150 millon free roaming cats in America. This will not affect your cat in any immeadiate sense but people in the future may have to restrict their free roaming pet. Feral cats will be restricted sooner. Ask Secretary Salazar to put cats on the invasive species list and help protect our birds from feline predation.
Dear Mr Secretary.
We the undersigned respectfully believe it is time to restrict free roaming cats in the USA. As you know the Audubon Society & the American Bird Conservancy support the restriction of free roaming cats due to the high mortality rate from free roaming feral & domestic cats. The US Fish & Wildlife Commission endorses the ABC Cat Indoors program. Suggesting people keep their cats indoors or trap neuter & release programs be stopped has made little or no difference in the growing problem of cat predation on birds. Our declining songbirds & endangered birds will not survive constant predation by an ever growing feline population. Please give our state wildlife agencies a mandate to stop free roaming cats in their state by putting cats on the invasive species list. Thank you for reading our letter.
