There have been several high profile incidents of animal abuse in Placer County in less than 8 months leading to the confiscation of dozens of dogs and one horse. The incidents involving dogs include one of seven dogs belonging to Ron Artest, a well known public sports figure with the Sacramento Kings, as well as a Meadow Vista Afghan Hound breeder and a breeder of Miniature Pinschers and Chihuahuas in Loomis. The horse, when relinquished, weighed 200 pounds below what a healthy adult horse should weigh.

Here is what we are petitioning for:
We want animal abuse and neglect to be prosecuted!
No actions have yet been taken to prosecute any of the aforementioned cases!
To make matters worse, Ron Artest was later arrested on domestic abuse charges and was suspended from playing on the famed Sacramento Kings basketball team, but was released on bail and is back with the team! The message here is that there is one version of justice for the ordinary citizen, and another version of justice for those who have wealth and fame.
We also want the county to uphold a promise made in 2000 to rebuild the old, delapidated and over-crowded animal shelter in Auburn.
In addition, we want the Placer County Board of Supervisors to agree to reduce bureaucratic red tape by removing the control that Placer County Department of Health and Human Services has over managerial decisions deemed necessary by Placer County Animal Control Managerial officials.
In essence, we want better care and services for our animals and for the citizens who pay for these with their tax dollars!
Those of us who have concern and compassion for animals have seen enough! We want changes and we want them now!
