Take PIP Implants Off the Market!

PIP implants are non-FDA approved implants with high rupture rates. They are proven to be unsafe due to the fact their shell integrity is one of the weakest of all implants available. The FDA refused to allow PIP implants onto their register due to their weak structure of elastamer coating, and recent studies by PIP themselves show higher than average capsular contracture and rupture rates.

Harley Medical Group use PIP implants for all their breast augmentation procedures. Unless asked, surgeons and nurses will not talk about PIP implants infamous reputation, and shrug aside any notion of them being unsafe. Some have also claimed they are FDA approved, which is completely untrue. HMG will charge exorbitant amounts should the patient request alternative, safer implants, reports have been heard of in excess of £900 for Allergan FDA approved implants.

While PIP claim to offer a 10 year guarantee, they state:

"PIP will... not be held liable in the case of events linked to an unsuitable lifestyle which may cause prior ageing of the implants and / or cause them to rupture."

However most ruptures occur without the patient even knowing. It%u2019s only when other symptoms, such as enlarged lymph glands, present that the rupture is considered a possibility. There is the chance thousands of women have ruptured PIP implants without even knowing.

In addition to high rupture rates, there has recently been a recall from the MHRA of Hydrogel PIP implants.

The fact that women spending so much money on their surgery are being given an inferior product is terrible and needs to end. This petition is directed to the Director and relevant executives of the Harley Medical Group, to remove PIP implants from their hospitals and clinics, and use an implant with more shell integrity.
